• A bill has been introduced in the Hawaii state senate seeking to abolish the requirement that all motor vehicles obtain an annual certificate of inspection. ASA is opposed to this proposed legislation.

• Similarly, a bill has been introduced in the Utah House of Representatives seeking to abolish the requirement that all motor vehicles obtain a certificate of inspection prior to registration. ASA is opposed to this proposed legislation, too.

• In 2011, Bridgestone Retail Operations (BSRO) opened 62 new automotive tire and service locations nationwide. BSRO operates nearly 2,200 Firestone Complete Auto Care, Tires Plus, ExpertTire and Wheel • Works locations across the United States.

• Following a pilot program at a service center in Aurora, CO, Econo Lube ‘N Tune & Brakes has agreed to expand its offering of Eco Ultra motor oil changes at all of its Denver-area shops. Eco Ultra is an API-licensed line of re-refined engine oil made by Universal Lubricants.

Spectra Premium Industries (Boucherville, QC) now offers product technical support via a “live chat” option on its website, www.spectrapremium.com. This new service is available from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (ET) Monday to Friday.

Snap-on now offers a variety of diagnostic multimedia training courses, at no charge, on its website at http://diagnostics.snapon.com/trainingsolutions. The courses are designed to help technicians learn how to use the features and capabilities associated with Snap-on’s diagnostic platforms.

Bosch has launched a new technical support hotline number (1-855-BoschTech) for all technical questions regarding Bosch parts, equipment and services. The new hotline serves as the central contact point for technical questions on parts; diagnostic tools, including wheel and tire service equipment; scan tools; and ESI[tronic] software; as well as catalog questions, consumer complaints and warranty issues.

• The 2011 EuroVent Presidents Award has been presented to Pacific Lift & Equipment for its performance and support of the EuroVent brand. Pacific Lift has been a specialty contractor and supplier of automotive repair equipment since 1955. It has offices in Pasadena and Sacramento, CA.

• The Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) has entered into a partnership program with Petty’s Garage to be an active participant in the Petty’s Garage Performance Tour. This is an extension of work that began in 2005 with Richard and Kyle with the production of the “Lifting It Right” DVD focusing on automotive lift operator safety training.

Direct Lift (Madison, IN) has been selected as the exclusive lift sponsor for all the Barrett-Jackson auctions. As such, Direct Lift will be represented at Barrett-Jackson’s 2012 events in Scottsdale, AZ; Palm Beach, FL; Orange County, CA; and Las Vegas.

Carstar has added three locations in Texas to its network and has begun an expansion effort into California.
