AUTO CARE ASSOCIATION POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title: Business Development Executive
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Division: Administration
Location: Bethesda, MD or Remote
Classification: Exempt

Position Summary:

The Auto Care Association is the voice for the auto care industry—a coast-to-coast network of 500,000 independent manufacturers, distributors, parts stores and repair shops offering quality, choice and innovation for drivers. The Auto Care Association keeps its members ahead of the curve, so they can continue to serve every kind of vehicle on the road today—providing parts and services designed to make vehicles last longer, perform better and keep drivers safer.

We are currently seeking an exceptional Business Development Executive to play an integral role in improving the market position and achieving financial growth for the Auto Care Association. This person will establish long-term strategic goals, build key customer relationships, identify business opportunities, negotiate and close business deals and maintain extensive knowledge of current market conditions.

Specifically, the Business Development Executive will sell the association’s products and digital properties, including product data subscriptions, technology products, and event sponsorships. The approach should be highly strategic, with a strong focus on successfully building and maintaining long-term relationships and identifying needs with members and existing/potential customers. The ability to identify needs and develop creative, customized opportunities will be an essential component of the position, and the demonstrated ability to build and grow a sales program is a must.

• Able to manage a rapidly evolving environment and multi-faceted product matrix comprised
of product data standards, technology subscriptions, event sponsorships, annual print products, monthly eNewsletters, and on-going digital campaigns including banners, email, leads and featured listings
• Have experience selling conference and events sponsorships or advertising that may require working with multiple points of contact on the client’s end, usually a marketing manager and a principal decision maker
• Familiar with product data standards and auto industry data-related products.
• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or Business Administration
• Willingness to take direction if and when needed, but also to work independently

In this role you can expect to:

• Create a portfolio of association products to be used in the sales process
• Act in a consultative sales role by:
• Evangelizing our qualified audience by sharing research and citing relevant reach and usage statistics for our channels and products.
• Architecting diversified campaigns based on a customer’s goals with mutually agreed upon KPI’s.
• Provide direction and counsel in the development of plans in marketing, advertising and sales promotion
• Set organization goals for revenue and create path to achieving those goals
• Prospect for new market audiences to sell association products and sponsorships by
developing and using persuasive approaches and pitches that will convince potential clients
to conduct business with the association
• Understand the target markets, including industry, company, project, contacts and which
market strategies can be used to attract clients
• Identify and sell sponsorship opportunities at association sponsored events, association
publications and research reports functions
• Work with responsible departments to maximize pricing on association products
• Develop a sales process to more effectively monitor and sell our industry data products
• Follow the latest industry developments and stay abreast of competitors
• Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide
feedback and information on market and creative trends

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or Business Administration
• Willingness to take direction if and when needed, but also to work independently
• 5 to 8 years of related sales or customer service experience preferred
• Strong skills and discipline working with CRM tools (ex: Personify or Salesforce) to create
reports, interpret data, and report on sales pipelines
• Experience in the digital media landscape, either buying, selling or tracking basic digital
programs such as banner and email advertising.
• Fluency in digital metric analysis (email, web, social: clicks, open rates, conversion rates)
• Organized and methodical approach in creating a sales plan and ensuring execution.
• Ability to think on your feet and to make creative decisions on product offerings, pricing,
discounts, and sales tactics
• Self-starter with proven track record of success with high levels of autonomy in your role
• Strong written and verbal communications skills to include errorless grammar and spelling
and a rapid and professional phone manner
• Experience prospecting to include cold calling
• Familiarity with using data analysis for lead generation
• Creativity to create sponsorship opportunities based on need
• Proficiency in Microsoft office suite and statistical analysis software
• Knowledge of the automotive industry. Aftermarket knowledge a plus.

• Compensation includes base salary and competitive commission structure
